Work
I am an electrical engineer and software developer living in the Washington, DC area. I currently work on the US-VISIT project at the Department of Homeland Security. I am an employee of Paragon Technology Group (http://www.paragontech.net) (one of the many companies providing developers to the project) although I still do some occassional contracting for my last employer, Wireless Matrix (http://www.wirelessmatrixcorp.com/).
The professional work I am the most proud of by far is the work I did while I was at Wireless Matrix (from 1998 to 2006). I built a network monitoring system from scratch using linux and various open source software packages and tools. I don't think a month went by that I didn't find another open source tool that I could usefully apply to this work. The contracting I do for them is the maintainence of this system.

My main languages are Python, C++, and java. I have a lot of experience in R but don't use it much these days.
